Biography

Born in 1964, Sara Serafin is a self-taught oil seascape artist from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. After a career in advertising and finance, she owned and ran an office supplies and art shop in Guernsey with her husband from 1999 until retiring in August this year to pursue her art full time.

It wasn’t until 2002 that she took up painting as a hobby.  Completely self-taught she grew more and more passionate about her art and gained more experience and knowledge attending workshops and courses whenever possible.

Sara loves colour and drama and uses it to depict the spectacular scenery, stunning skies and powerful seascapes of the Channel Islands.  Whilst she does paint wild cats and portraits generally in pastels, she always returns to her beloved oils for her seascapes.

Her debut solo exhibition was held at St James’ Gallery in Guernsey in 2007 and she has since held many more at various venues including Guernsey Picture Framers & Gallery where she is a member of their Master Guild.  Her most recent collection was exhibited at the Market Buildings, St. Peter Port in Guernsey in August/September 2020 and opened by Guernsey’s then Lieutenant Governor’s wife, Lady Corder.

Sara joined the Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club in 2008 (Guernsey’s most prestigious art club, established in 1924) and was their president from 2011 - 2019. Her debut entry into their annual Summer Exhibition in 2008 was voted ‘best in show’.  She has since gone on to attain many Honours and First Class Certificates for work entered into the Guernsey Eisteddfod and has been awarded the coveted Sir Havilland de Sausmarez, Silver Claret Jug for ‘General Excellence in Art’ five times between 2013 and 2024.

Sara also enjoys teaching oils with her regular workshops as she loves to inspire and encourage others to enjoy art as she does.
